This Saturday, my family and I went with Holdsworth to the north end of the Fish Lake Plateau to see how far we could get up Gooseberry Road and to check on Rex Reservoir.
We were forced to turn around, just before the turn to Farnsworth Reservoir. The existing snow won't last much longer with the actual summer-like weather finally arriving this year. We stopped by a roadside pond to stretch our legs and to collect snow for the cooler.
What a surprise to run into this guy at over 9000ft.
It was pretty big, considering where we were. Naturally, I just had to catch it and show my kids. We saw another one too.
Our main destination for the day was supposed to be Rex Reservoir, a place where my family and I have always had a good time and enjoyed good fishing. With the warmer temps comes a lot of runoff, so we thought it better to start our day up higher, at Twin Ponds.
The small brookies in Twin were pretty willing to bite or chase most of what we threw. Their lack of size was contrasted by their beauty.
Black marabou jigs worked well for Holdsworth and he even caught a couple on a Blue Fox.
My son got in on some of the action too!
That's my boy.
The wildflowers are starting to show up in the higher elevations now and that's always nice.
Once we were ready to go back to the car, we decided to go and check on Rex anyway and try to catch something a little larger than the brookies we'd seen, no matter what the condition of the water.
It's a crazy dirty lake right now. The high water mark is underwater, most shore access is shallow and weedy, and there's a river of water pouring out of it, about 50 yds away from the inflow.
Needless to say, we didn't catch anything there, but it was good to see the area again and the kids had fun getting dirty.
Happy Fishing, Humans.

Nothing like getting the family involved. The kids look like they sure enjoyed the day outdoors. Yes, Brookies are a beautiful fish and that makes up for the size they might not have. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSome great pics. Those Brookies are beautiful. Always great to see kids out fishing with their parents. I don't think I would have been brave enough to grab the snakes though. Probably would have run off screaming like a girl :) Tight Lines.
ReplyDeletelooks like the youngins had a blast! Grabbing the snake would have been last on my list lol
